I was away from home this past week, as a volunteer Patient Partner at the North American Pain School (NAPS), helping pain researchers learn about patient perspectives on pain and chronic pain. Our packed daily schedule of lectures and workshops began with guided yoga outside, overlooking the water, and ended well past my usual bedtime most nights.
This means that I've barely had time to check my email or to think about the arts side of my life - apart from the many conversations about my #ArtDespitePain initiative with researchers and pain specialists here. So on Wednesday night, just before hitting the hay, I opened my arts email and got a fabulous surprise... Another of my watercolour paintings has been accepted into a juried international exhibition of a national arts organization!
My painting "Eruption of Pain" will appear in the "2025 AIMAE" exhibition of the Canadian Federation of Artists (FCA), at the FCA Gallery in Vancouver from August 18 through September 7, 2025. Stay tuned for details closer to the exhibition date!
J'ai passé la semaine à l'extérieur de la ville, en tant que Patiente Partenaire bénévole au "North American Pain School" (NAPS) qui se traduit à peu près en "École de douleur Nord Américaine". Mon rôle était d'aider des chercheurs des domaines de la douleur à mieux apprécier les perspectives des personnes vivant avec la douleur chronique. Nos journées débutaient avec des sessions de yoga guidées à 07h00 et ne prennaient fin qu'après mon heure habituelle du coucher.
Je n'ai presque pas eu le temps de lire mes courriels ni de penser à mes projets d'art - à part mon initiative de l'Art malgré la douleur (#ArtDespitePain) qui à fait l'objet de plusieurs conversations avec les chercheurs et cliniciens. Alors mercredi soir j'ai ouvert mes courriels avant de me coucher et j'ai eu une bonne surprise ... une autre de mes aquarelles fut acceptée par le Jury d'une exposition internationale d'une association nationale des arts !
Cette oeuvre - Éruption de douleur - fera part de l'exposition internationale "2025 AIMAE" de la "Federation of Canadian Artists" (FCA). L'exposition aura lieu à la Galerie de la FCA à Vancouver, du 18 août au 7 septembre 2025. Des renseignements supplémentaires suivront plus proche du début de l'exposition.
